Happy Valentine’s day!!!
It’s #showsomelove day and I am such a sucker for sappy romantic movies. I can enjoy a crappy romantic all’s-well-that-ends-well movie where the guy screws up and then goes on to chase the object of his affection while she is at the airport about to leave and he professes his love for her (lol, don’t judge me). For the lovers out there who are single, “bae-less” or whose boo is just far away on this day of love, I have compiled a list of 5 series/movies you can binge on alone or while chilling with the girls.
Being Mary Jane
Being Mary Jane is a series you watch while sipping a glass of wine. Gabrielle Union stars as Mary Jane Paul, a successful TV reporter who is searching for love in all the wrong places. Mary Jane attempts to balance her career with her overbearing family and an increasingly messy love life.
This series stars Sutton Foster as the lead character alongside Hilary Duff. Younger is a show where a 45 year old single mother who can’t get a job because of her age decides to reboot her career as a 26-year-old. Initially she just has to ensure no one discovers her secret but then gets entangled in a love triangle with a 26-year-old tattoo artist boyfriend and her boss who is closer to her real age. I’m rooting for the boss of course!
This series set in the early 20th century follows the surprisingly interesting life of the super-rich Crawley family and the household staff that are devoted to their comfort. Dame Maggy Smith stars as Violet, the stubborn Dowager Countess of Grantham while Hugh Bonneville stars as her son - the stoic, unflappable Lord Crowley. Let’s just say I have been unable to fill the void created when this series ended after the 7th instalment. It’s that good!
Beauty and Beast 2017
A modern day adaptation of the fairy tale about a prince turned into a monstrous looking beast by an enchantment and a young woman who fall in love. Belle (Emma Watson), a bright, beautiful and independent young woman, gives herself to be taken prisoner by the beast (Dan Stevens) in its castle in exchange for her sick father’s freedom. She befriends the castle's enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the beast's hideous exterior, allowing her to recognize the kind heart and soul of the true prince that hides on the inside.
Southside with You
This movie is a presidential bionic about Barack and Michelle Obama's first date, covering only a single day in the life of these two people. It recounts the eventful summer day in 1989 when a young law firm associate named Barack Obama (Parker Sawyers) tried to woo lawyer Michelle Robinson (Tika Sumpter) during their day-long date. Don’t you just love the Obamas? They make you believe in love.
